At Vecova, we believe caregivers need support, too.

Caring for someone living with dementia can be rewarding, but it can also be challenging. It can affect your emotions, physical health, and overall well-being. Many caregivers spend so much time caring for someone else that they forget to take care of themselves.

Our Dementia Caregiver Group is designed for people who are caring for someone with dementia or a related condition. Led by Dani Paulich from Vecova’s Mental Health Services team, the group offers a safe and welcoming place to connect with others who understand what you’re going through.

During each session, caregivers can share their experiences, learn helpful coping skills, and discover resources that can support them in their caregiving journey. You don’t have to do it alone, we’re here to help.

What to Expect

Each session is designed to help caregivers manage both the daily challenges and the long-term responsibilities of caring for someone with dementia. The group includes a variety of supportive activities, including:

  • Art therapy
  • Peer support and shared experiences
  • Psychoeducation
  • Resource-building
  • Guided discussions and self-reflection

Topics include:

  • Managing stress and preventing burnout
  • Practicing self-compassion
  • Emotional regulation
  • Finding moments of joy
  • Building resilience
  • Accessing community resources
  • Navigating the changing caregiving journey

The group meets you where you are and offers practical strategies you can carry into everyday life.

A Safe Space to Connect

Many caregivers can feel alone, overwhelmed, stressed, or unsure of what to do next. Talking with others who are going through similar experiences can help you feel supported and understood.

Our Dementia Caregiver Group provides a safe and welcoming space where caregivers can share their experiences, learn helpful strategies, and connect with others. The group is led by an experienced mental health counsellor that give guidance and support each session.

🌄 Supporting Cochrane and the Bow Corridor Community

Vecova continues to proudly support individuals in Cochrane and the Bow Corridor region. Our services remain active in the area, ensuring that participants can still access meaningful programs and supports within their community. Although we no longer have a physical office space in Canmore, our presence and commitment remain strong. We continue to work alongside individuals and partners in Cochrane and the Bow Corridor to promote inclusion, independence, and community connection.

At Vecova, every day is focused on building inclusive communities where people of all abilities can thrive. That work happens through programs, housing supports, recreation, and community connection but it also depends on something simple and powerful: the everyday items that make those programs possible.

That’s where our Amazon Wishlist comes in.

A simple way to make a big impact

Our Amazon Wishlist is an easy way for individuals, families, and community members to directly support Vecova programs. Each item on the list helps us provide meaningful experiences, safe environments, and accessible supports for the people we serve.

From program supplies to day-to-day essentials, these contributions go straight into enhancing the services and spaces our participants rely on.

What your support helps us do

Inclusion is built through consistency, care, and community support. Small items, often the ones we take for granted, can make a big difference in someone’s ability to participate fully and comfortably.

Vecova at the Airdrie Home & Lifestyle Show

Vecova was proud to take part in the Airdrie Home & Lifestyle Show this April, connecting with community members and sharing information about our programs and services. The event brought together residents, local businesses, and organizations from across the region for a weekend focused on community, ideas, and local connections.

Throughout the weekend, our team had the opportunity to speak with many visitors who stopped by our booth to learn more about what Vecova offers. From inclusive recreation and employment supports to community programs and services, it was wonderful to share more about how Vecova supports individuals and families in building skills, confidence, and connections.

Events like the Airdrie Home & Lifestyle Show are a great way for us to meet people where they are and introduce new audiences to the work we do. We enjoyed answering questions, having conversations about accessibility and inclusion, and connecting with people who were excited to learn more about the programs available through Vecova.

We are grateful to everyone who took the time to stop by our booth, say hello, and learn more about our organization. It was also great to meet other local vendors and community groups who are doing important work in the region.

Thank you to the organizers of the Airdrie Home & Lifestyle Show for hosting such a well-attended and welcoming event. Vecova always values opportunities to engage with the community, and we look forward to continuing to build connections in Airdrie and beyond.

At Vecova, our Bottle Pickup Program has grown into something much bigger than a recycling initiative, it’s a community-driven movement that supports inclusion, sustainability, and local impact all at once.

What started as a simple way to collect refundable beverage containers has become a meaningful service that brings people together, supports accessible employment, and raises vital funds for programs that empower people with disabilities.

Now, as we continue to grow, we’re excited to share that our Bottle Pickup Program, already making a strong impact in Southeast Calgary is looking to expand into Airdrie.

Making a Difference in Southeast Calgary

In Southeast Calgary, the Bottle Pickup Program has been helping households, businesses, and community groups turn everyday recycling into real community impact.

Every pickup contributes to:

  • Reducing waste and supporting environmental sustainability 🌱
  • Creating meaningful work and skill-building opportunities
  • Generating funds that directly support Vecova’s inclusive programs
  • Building stronger connections between Vecova and the community

What makes this program so special is that it’s not just about bottles—it’s about people. Each pickup supports inclusive employment opportunities and helps participants build confidence, independence, and valuable workplace skills.

Why Expansion Matters

Demand for the Bottle Pickup Program has grown steadily, especially in communities that want easier, more accessible ways to recycle while supporting local social impact initiatives.

Expanding into Airdrie means we can:

  • Reach more households and businesses who want convenient recycling solutions
  • Increase funding for inclusive recreation and community programs
  • Create more supported employment opportunities for people with disabilities
  • Strengthen community connections beyond Calgary

This growth reflects something we see every day, communities want to give back, and they’re looking for simple, meaningful ways to do it.

How It Works

Our Bottle Pickup Program is designed to be simple and accessible:

  1. Book a pickup online or through Vecova
  2. Leave your bagged refundable containers outside
  3. Our team collects, sorts, and processes them
  4. Refunds are reinvested directly into Vecova programs and services

It’s an easy way to make a big difference without leaving your driveway.

More Than Recycling

Every bottle collected supports Vecova’s broader mission: building inclusive communities where everyone belongs.

Funds raised help support programs like:

  • Adapted recreation and aquatics
  • Employment readiness and training
  • Community participation programs
  • Accessibility and independence supports

So when you schedule a pickup, you’re not just recycling you’re investing in inclusion.

Looking Ahead

As we look to the future, expanding into Airdrie represents an exciting step forward. We’re eager to connect with new households, local businesses, and community partners who want to be part of something impactful and practical.

Together, we can turn everyday recycling into lasting change one bottle pickup at a time. 💚♻️

Vecova is proud to stand alongside our community partners in celebrating a week of connection, accessibility, and inclusion across the Bow Valley. From December 3 to December 10, organizations throughout Banff and Canmore are hosting events that highlight the strength, creativity, and diversity of people of all abilities.

This week of programming aligns with the spirit of International Day of Persons with Disabilities, reminding us that inclusive communities aren’t built in a single day, they grow through shared experiences, open dialogue, and accessible spaces where everyone belongs.

Below is a look at what’s happening throughout the week.

Vecova’s Commitment to an Inclusive Future

Vecova is honoured to be part of a network of organizations, including Rocky Mountain Adaptive, Bow Valley Connections Centre, the Alberta World Cup Society, artsPlace, Pride Network, and many others, working to strengthen accessibility and inclusion in our communities.

These events reflect what we believe deeply at Vecova:

  • Inclusion is an ongoing practice.
  • Accessibility is a shared responsibility.
