Gentle Fitness

Start your fitness journey here! Vecova’s Gentle Fitness classes are perfect for those who are just starting to get active or returning to fitness after an injury, illness or new diagnosis. These classes will help promote your wellness while you have fun! These programs are highly recommended for graduates of the Alberta Health Services (AHS) Healthy Living Programs.

Fall 1 program registration begins on August 15 at 8:00 a.m.

Fall 2 program registration begins on September 26 at 8:00 a.m.

GENTLE STRENGTH AND BALANCE LEVEL 1

This level 1 program is meant for you if you are new to fitness, or living with a chronic condition, or are pre or post operative for hips or knees, or have arthritis or bad shoulders.

A chair is used to create a comfortable and safe environment while you work on your confidence and mobility.Each class will begin with a gentle head to toe warm up and introduces a variety of strengthening exercises that use optional hand weights, bands, balls and other equipment, and you will learn how to do each exercise safely with correct form. Hand grip strength will be included, and light stretching will end each class. Optional standing balance work holding onto the chair will be offered.

Modifications of exercises are provided to take special consideration of any injuries and limitations you may have. Do as much or as little as is comfortable for you that day.

Gentle Strength and Balance Level 1 is relaxed and easy-going and has great music! Join Louise for an enjoyable 45 minutes of healthy movement!

GENTLE STRENGTH AND BALANCE LEVEL 2

This program is a enjoyable continuation of level 1 and is suitable if you are living with a chronic condition, are getting back into group fitness, or like to move and listen to great music! A chair is used to create a comfortable and safe environment while you work on your confidence and mobility, and more standing options are provided than level 1.

Each class will begin with a gentle head to toe warm up and introduces a variety of strengthening exercises that use optional hand weights, bands, balls and other equipment, and you will learn how to do each exercise safely with correct form. Hand grip strength will be included, and light stretching will end each class. Optional standing balance work holding onto the chair and shoulder work against the wall will be offered.

Modifications of exercises are provided to take special consideration of any injuries and limitations you may have. Do as much or as little as is comfortable for you that day.

Gentle Strength and Balance Level 2 is an energizing and easy-going addition to your day!Join Louise for an enjoyable 45 minutes of healthy movement!

GENTLE STRENGTH AND BALANCE LEVEL 3

Gentle Strength and Balance Level 3 offers a wonderful opportunity to continue your fitness journey! Join Janet for a variety of exercises that make sense and are easy to follow.

A chair will be used for balance and support and most of the exercises will be done standing with seated options provided.Each class will begin with a seated head to toe warmup followed by a strength workout using hand weights, bands, balls and other equipment. Optional standing balance work, a cooldown, and gentle stretching complete a total body workout.

Modifications of exercises are provided to take special consideration of any injuries and limitations you may have. Do as much or as little as is comfortable for you that day.

Gentle Strength and Balance Level 3 is an energizing and fun addition to your day!

GENTLE SEATED YOGA

Experience the benefits of yoga without getting down on the floor! This gentle program uses a chair to create an enjoyable and safe environment to work on your flexibility, balance and strength. Each class is personalized to your individual needs and takes special consideration of any injuries and limitations you may have.

Meditation and breath work will be introduced for relaxation and mindfulness. Optional standing positions will be introduced using the chair for support, and breathing exercises for relaxation and mindfulness will be practiced each week. Do as much or as little as you feel like and treat yourself to a rejuvenating Wednesday!
