SkyeFire Bakery is a family-run business that specializes in a variety of breads, buns and other baked goods. The staff at SkyeFire welcomed Skylar warmly into their team and have helped him showcase his strengths and skills in the bakery. We’re glad to be able to partner with businesses and organizations that value inclusion and supported employment, like SkyeFire Bakery!
Finding employment during a pandemic is difficult for everyone, and Vecova is proud to have helped Skylar, especially at this time. Now he’s gained numerous skills that will help him throughout his life. We’re glad to have been part of Skylar’s journey!
In partnership with the Rocky View School District, Vecova provides supports to youth with disabilities and their families to navigate the path from youth to adulthood. We’ve been proud to be part of many success stories for numerous youths in and around Calgary. Skylar's Story with Vecova's Youth Program
Vecova’s Youth Program gives young Albertans who face barriers to employment the tools and skills to start their careers. This is Skylar’s story: Skylar was like any other high school student, in search of work experience. Through Vecova, he was able to get his start at SkyeFire Bakery and find a meaningful job in a supportive environment. Vecova provided Skylar with support throughout the process – from practicing interview skills, to helping him with his cover letter and resume, to giving him on-the-job support through Vecova’s Job Coaches. He was soon hired by SkyeFire Bakery through a work experience placement. With help from his Job Coach and the other employees at SkyeFire Bakery, Skylar learned tasks like making doughs and meeting the high standards of cleaning. He eventually gained enough experience that he was hired on part-time – and he continues to work there today! The skills he gained at Vecova enabled him to work well and independently – he now does not need Job Coach support.
