As of today, over 500,000 Canadians are living with dementia, and 1 in 5 Canadians has cared for someone with the condition. By 2030, that number could climb to nearly 1 million, underscoring the urgent need for supportive programs. According to the Alzheimer Society, by 2030 Canada could see 187,000 new cases each year. This is equivalent to 512 new diagnoses a day or 21 every hour, a 51% increase in annual new cases compared to 2020.
At Vecova, we believe that wellness goes beyond physical health, it’s about creating spaces where people feel connected, engaged, and supported. That’s why we are proud to provide our Early Stage Dementia Wellness Program, an established program for adults aged 60+ living with early-stage dementia-related conditions.
This program provides participants with the opportunity to engage in twice-weekly, tailored exercise and cognitive activities that are both stimulating and enjoyable. Each session is thoughtfully structured to nurture both body and mind, helping participants build strength, enhance memory, and foster meaningful social connections.
What Makes the Program Unique?
Engaging Themes & Group Discussions
Every week brings a variety of new topics inspired by participants’ interests, creating immersive experiences that spark conversation, creativity, and connection.
Personalized Fitness
Our strength and conditioning program is focused on each participant's unique abilities and interests. Incorporating both individual and group exercise, our participants have the opportunity to work on cardio, strength and conditioning, balance, and coordination in a safe and supportive environment.
Music Therapy
There is strong evidence that participation in music therapy can enhance mood and support cognitive function. Our music program offers participants meaningful opportunities to connect with others, express creativity, stimulate memory, and experience the joy of making music together.
Building Community and Well-Being
Beyond the activities, the heart of this program lies in its sense of community. Participants are welcomed into an inclusive, supportive environment where they can share stories, laugh together, and feel a true sense of belonging.
Social & Community Team Lead, Heather Burke, says “What really makes our program so special is the kindness and dedication of our team, and the wonderful connections we share with the participants and their families. We love creating a fun and welcoming space where everyone feels valued and part of the community”
