Help Us Help Others

Hi, my name's Morgan. I volunteer helping seniors out with their food.

At Vecova, we are proud to have a community of dedicated individuals, employees and consumers who are committed to helping others in need.

Morgan is one of these individuals, and understands the importance of supporting the community.

Before the pandemic, Morgan volunteered at different organizations in the community with the help of Vecova’s Housing Services team.

Today, he continues to volunteer each week with two organizations in Calgary, delivering meals and groceries to other vulnerable members of the community. Morgan takes great pride in his work, and recognizes that the need for his support is especially important at this time with many people isolated in their homes. Taking every precaution to protect himself and those who support him, he is doing what he can to give back to a community that is supporting him in return.

Even as we start to plan for brighter days ahead, we know that the road to recovery will take time while the need for support remains high.

You can support your community and give back to those who need it most in whatever capacity you have to give.

Whether it is making a financial gift, sharing a kind message for isolated individuals, or volunteering your time and skills, your support will go a long way to ensuring Vecova can continue looking out for our community. From everyone at Vecova, we wish you all the best.

I hope you are keeping well and staying safe during this difficult time. As we all do what we can to respond to the ever-changing situation, I know that feelings of stress and anxiety, loss of financial security and social isolation weigh heavily on many.

For persons with disabilities, these feelings are compounded by existing physical, mental and social needs that remain despite the threat of COVID-19.

In Alberta, one in seven people have a disability – a number that continues to grow as our population ages. These individuals are some of our community’s most vulnerable.

These past few weeks have highlighted for me the unique challenges that persons with disabilities and their families are facing in this crisis. Vecova is doing everything we can to support those in our care.

Vecova’s Mental Health Services are now being offered over phone, teleconferencing and video calls to ensure those in isolation have access to mental health supports. Our Housing Services continue to look after individuals with complex medical and mental health needs in a variety of living environments.

Ensuring persons with disabilities are receiving the support they require exemplifies who Vecova is as an organization. This exceptionally high risk community needs and deserves a great level of commitment and support from all of us during this crisis.

We can’t do it alone. We need your help. With gratitude,
