Calgary, AB, October 6, 2025

Vecova proudly hosted its annual Disability Employment Awareness Month (DEAM) Celebration of Inclusion at the Calgary Winter Club, bringing together employers, advocates, job seekers, and community leaders to recognize the critical contributions of individuals with disabilities in the workforce.

With the theme “Celebrating Contributions. Advancing Access. Creating Opportunity,” the event served as a platform to highlight inclusive employment practices, share success stories, and honour the organizations and individuals championing workplace accessibility in Calgary.

A Day of Recognition and Connection

The event began with a powerful Awards Ceremony, where Vecova recognized outstanding employers and employees who have demonstrated leadership in creating inclusive workplaces. These awards celebrate businesses and individuals who are actively breaking down barriers and opening doors to opportunity through innovation, collaboration, and commitment to equity. The afternoon continued with an Open House, where attendees connected directly with inclusive employers, community organizations, and employment service providers. The event was welcoming and accessible to all, offering light refreshments and plenty of networking opportunities.

Inclusion in Action – Now on YouTube!

A highlight of the celebration was the premiere of Vecova’s DEAM video, now available on YouTube. The video showcases the real-world impact of inclusive employment by featuring employees with disabilities thriving in their roles; on the job, with their teams, and supported by forward-thinking employers.

It offers an authentic look into inclusive workplaces across Calgary, shining a light on both the challenges and triumphs of creating meaningful employment opportunities for people of all abilities. It’s more than a celebration; it’s a call to action.

“This video isn’t just about a moment; it’s about a movement,” said a Vecova representative. “Employment is about dignity, identity, and community. We are proud to share these stories of resilience, partnership, and progress.”

Advancing Inclusive Employment in Calgary

Vecova’s DEAM event is more than a one-day celebration; it’s part of a broader commitment to advancing disability inclusion in Calgary and beyond. Through programs, partnerships, and advocacy, Vecova continues to lead the way in creating accessible pathways to employment for all.

Attendees left the event inspired, empowered, and motivated to take action within their own organizations and communities. With employers, service providers, and job seekers all in one room, the event sparked important conversations and meaningful connections that will continue to shape Calgary’s employment landscape.

Thank You to Our Community

Vecova extends heartfelt thanks to all attendees, partners, and especially to the individuals and organizations featured in this year’s video. A special thank you to the Calgary Winter Club, a proud Vecova Employment Partner, for hosting this impactful event.

Together, we are building a workforce and a world where everyone belongs.

Newcomer Program Event: Celebrating Success & Building Connections

The Newcomer Program continues to grow and thrive, and we’re excited to share an update on our most recent accomplishment. On September 12th, we hosted our Resume Critiquing Event, and it was a huge success! Nearly 50 newcomers attended to have their resumes reviewed, gain valuable feedback, and connect with our employer partners through networking activities. The energy in the room was incredible, and participants walked away with stronger resumes, new connections, and a boost of confidence as they continue their employment journey.

A big shout-out to our Vecova volunteers – without your support, this event would not have been possible! One participant shared: “Having someone take the time to go through my resume and give advice meant so much. Thank you for helping me take this next step.”

If you’re inspired by this success and want to support newcomers on an ongoing basis, we’re always looking for volunteers to serve as Community Connectors or Language Interpreters. Your involvement helps newcomers feel welcomed, supported, and ready to thrive.

If you are interested please reach out to Celina Sinclair [email protected] or the Newcomer Program [email protected]

We’re proud to support newcomers as they navigate the Canadian job market. Vecova’s Employment Services Calgary created the Newcomer Employment Program, made possible by the City of Calgary’s Family & Community Support Services (FCSS), a joint municipal-provincial initiative that funds preventive social services. This program is designed to help individuals facing employment barriers gain the confidence, skills, and connections they need to succeed. Whether you’re looking for support in resume writing, preparing for interviews, or improving workplace readiness, our program offers personalized guidance every step of the way.
