The history of Albertans with disabilities is largely unknown. It is at times troubling: institutionalization, forced sterilization and the denial of basic human rights. Yet, a long road has been travelled to right these wrongs.
It’s My History, Too!, IMHT for short, is a ground-breaking initiative. It will tell the story of persons with developmental disabilities in Alberta. Institutional life, education and community living are the primary lenses through which we will see what it means and has meant to have a disability.
