Vecova is excited to announce the First Annual Vecova 5k Run & Walk. This event is a milestone for Vecova, as we look to engage staff, clients and our community. The Vecova 5k Run & Walk will be held in Edworthy Park and along the Bow River Pathway on Sunday, June 26th, with the race kicking off at 9:30am. All ages, and abilities are welcome to register to run or walk in a morning that will shine a spotlight on all of Vecova’s positive impacts on persons with disabilities.
“It is a very exciting time for all of us at Vecova to be a part of our very first run. We hope that the event will engage everyone. It is open to everyone of all ages and abilities, so please come and have fun,” says Vecova’s Development Manager, Simona Lupas. Organizing an event that involves the participation of a large group of people is no small task, but the payoff is well worth it if more individuals can be engaged in the promotion of inclusion for persons with disabilities.
The Vecova 5k Run & Walk will be directing all proceeds to Empower Abilities, a step-by-step progressive program for children with mild to moderate motor delays and disabilities. The program assists in developing and empowering capacity, skill and confidence for community sport, fitness and recreational activities. The goal is to have each child gain capacity, confidence and independence such that he/she can transition into community recreation or sport. This event aims to raise awareness about Vecova, and the important and diverse services that the organization provides to persons with disabilities.
Vecova has a fundraising goal of $5,000 for this event, a number that will be matched by up to 50% through our involvement with the Shaw Charity Classic and Birdies for Kids presented by AltaLink. This means that every dollar raised or donated will go twice as far. Thank you to the Running Room for their registration services and day-of support. We are still looking for sponsors and volunteers, so please do not hesitate to follow the links on the registration page to learn more.
